In support of WSMA State Marching Band Championships
In 2007 the Wisconsin Foundation for School Music presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Mike Leckrone. The award recognized Mike’s legacy in music education and the thousands of students, parents, teachers, spectators and others he has inspired over many years.
The WSMA State Marching Band Championships draw 33 bands annually from all over Wisconsin. Nearly 2,300 students perform for a stadium crowd of over 10,000 spectators. These students practice countless hours in the summer and fall months, all leading up to this final, highly anticipated moment. Costumes are pressed, equipment is ready and energy is always the theme of the night.
These students have learned the critical skills of teamwork, determination, discipline and commitment. These are the skills required to be a part of Mike Leckrone’s band. Over 80% of Mike’s students come from Wisconsin schools and are products of the WSMA State Marching Band Championships.
Thanks to a generous donation from Jere and Anne Fluno and the UW-Madison Marching Band, we have established the Mike Leckrone Endowment Fund to support the WSMA State Marching Band Championships. Proceeds from this endowment fund will help to cover costs associated in expanding opportunities offered to students and teachers through this event.
